School Uniform

At Grafton Primary School, we have chosen not to have a traditional school uniform.

This decision reflects our belief that every child is an individual. We want children to arrive at school feeling comfortable, confident and ready to be themselves, knowing that they are valued for who they are rather than what they wear.

Our values of Love, Creativity, Kindness, Inclusion, Resilience and Empowerment shape every aspect of school life, including our approach to clothing. By removing the expectation of a uniform, we encourage children to celebrate their individuality while learning one of life's most important lessons: that everyone deserves respect, whatever their appearance, background or personal style.

Being part of the Grafton community is not about dressing the same; it is about sharing the same values. Our sense of belonging comes from the way we treat one another, the relationships we build and the kindness and respect we show every day.

We do, however, ask that children come to school in clothing that is practical, comfortable and appropriate for learning. Children should be able to move freely, take part in active learning, enjoy outdoor play and participate safely in all aspects of school life.

For PE, children should wear suitable clothing and footwear that allow them to take part comfortably and safely. Your child's class teacher will provide details of the days when PE kit is required.

We know that choosing not to have a uniform is a little different, and parents sometimes ask why we have taken this approach. For us, it is another way of recognising that every child is unique. We want children to feel accepted as they are, while learning to appreciate and celebrate the individuality of others.

Ultimately, what unites our school is not what we wear, but who we are.
